NYFW: Looking Back, Looking Ahead to Fall 2017

Next season, FWO plans to host even more designers’ live streams in conjunction with ABC News.

Although there were some forays into virtual reality shows, and certain designers such as Tom Ford, Nicole Miller, and Tommy Hilfiger created “see now, buy now” shopping experiences (if not always memorable collections), for the most part, “traditional” live streams reigned supreme.

An explosion of independent producers into New York Fashion Week can only be a good thing, with new and old names like AMCONYC, FTL Moda, Art Hearts Fashion, and Style Fashion Week showcasing around 100 emerging designers, upsetting the balance with traditional designers throughout the week.

The advent of virtual reality, which is bound to get a boost when Google’s Daydream VR starts to gain ground, will no doubt factor into the creation of a VR Fashion Week, as well as new VR runway shows.

By the way, is anybody else waiting for Apple to debut their virtual reality solution? Although no one knows when it will happen, you could be pretty sure — like the debut of the iPhone — it will be comprehensive, and possibly bring the VR landscape into focus, at last.

One thing we can say for certain: the evolution of New York fashion week to a consumer-facing proposition is no longer so much a supposition as a fact.

And if we learned anything from Tom Ford show, it’s that, love it or hate it, celebrities still figure prominently into the plan of many established designers.

The official FWO New York Fashion Week schedule is already taking shape, so feel free to take a look and see what’s coming up in February 2017.

We love you, and we’ll see you soon.

With love,

FWO
