For better (or for worse), New York boasts possibly the most controversial fashion week each season. Well-known designers, glamorous celebrities, impressive models, and unique designs flourish each year in New York.
Though not all of the participating designers are already accomplished and famous, every year a couple of designers stand out with their amazing designs and unique entrances. This year, two designers stole the thunder from everyone else.
Malan Breton impressed the audience with his magnificent designs and Hollywood glam sensibility. Light and airy prints along with a darker edge were his main approach. He was definitely among NYFW’s stars, that stood out between several other designers. Malan Breton showed off his signature detailing along with ethereal gowns, all in magnificent, incomparable fabrics.
Kanye West made a customarily impressive appearance at NYFW this year, in part due to a fight with Steven Kolb (quickly resolved, as it turns out). Clearly renewed — and at a more creative pace than last year — Kanye made a favorable impression on critics and celebrities. Editors and fashion critics placed Kanye among the most successful designers of 2017. For the first time, his designs were wearable and original, along with some fine, delicate forms. West was without a doubt a highlight of the week.
Calvin Klein launched another collection under his new chief creative officer. Raf Simons was the person of interest, with many blogs and media paying tuned in to this year’s show. Everything he had promised to offer to this fashion week came true. A new brand’s aesthetic along with youthful, offbeat beauty garments, made their appearance. Simons has attempted to stand out and really nailed it!
However, the most talked-about person of all designers was definitely Rihanna! She took Puma to NYFW and almost reinvented this well-known brand. Everyone was talking about Rihanna’s amazing appearance, as well as the whole new style she’s added to Puma sportswear. Rihanna’s new approach was thoroughly discussed and completely loved by both media and celebrities. She may not have stolen Kanye’s thunder, but she is definitely among the most successful celeb designers. Way to go, Rihanna!
Fashion Week Summary
Obviously, with some 100+ shows, NYFW did not include only the designers mentioned above. The Olsen twins, though they did not garner the celebrity and media attention they intended, held a rather unexpected show during fashion week. New, original designs with attention to detail and a youthful approach were their main theme. Gypsy Sport also made their customary strong impression, with daring hair and makeup.
NYFW’s spring edition may be over, but fashionistas already are waiting eagerly for next season.
